How to keep your home guest ready this Christmas
'Tis the season for unexpected guests to drop in so we've compiled a list of easy things you can do to keep your home guest ready so you won't be running around the house in a cold sweat trying to organise your clutter and hide the dirty dishes in the sink!
1. Keep it neat and tidy
This is a fairly obvious tip but something many of us struggle with! Many of us tend to dump things on the dining table as soon as we get home or leave clothes lying around. Try and designate where your household items should be put and try and resist the temptation to dump them here, there and everywhere. This way your hand bag will be exactly where it should be and not strewn across the kitchen bench. Also, think about your storage solutions, keep them smart and separate so you don't have a jumble of things all in one basket or tub. Try and get into the habit of putting small things away as you move through your home, see a pair of shoes in the door way? Why not pick them up and put them away as you walk past?
2. Create an atmosphere with candles
Candles are a fantastic way to create good ambiance. The warm light and delicious scents are so inviting they're bound to give your guests a positive first impression. Scented candles are also good for making your home smell fresh and inviting.
3. Keep it clean!
Don't fall behind on your housework. Every day it feels like we're stretched in a million different directions and it's hard to dedicate the hour or so to cleaning the house. Keeping up to date and doing it on a regular basis (we recommend at least weekly) will make it so it doesn't turn into a huge overwhelming task taking the better part of your Saturday. Try creating a cleaning schedule where you and chip away at the cleaning in smaller chunks so you can enjoy your home and it'll be clean and ready for guests.
4. Keep up with your regular home maintenance
Things like having the windows washed, the air conditioners serviced or the carpets cleaned should be done on a semi regular basis and make for a cleaner, healthier home.
