Dry Cleaning vs Steam Cleaning
It's surprising how often we're asked "what's better, steam cleaning or dry cleaning for carpets?" Our answer is always the same. Steam cleaning. At Results we only use the hot water extraction method, also known as steam cleaning, because it yields better results every time.
Steam cleaning or the hot water extraction method is suitable for all carpet types and will deliver a deeper clean every time. The hot water extraction method is the cleaning method recommended by the Australian standards and involves hot water being pulsed down to the base of your carpet fibers whilst simultaneously being sucked up with a powerful industrial vacuum.
Steam cleaning reaches down to the base of your carpet fibers and lifts out the dirt, dust and debris that has settled in your carpet in the last year since your last carpet clean. Steam cleaning not only offers a deeper clean but it will also kill any bacteria, dust mites and germs lingering in your carpet and upholstery.
Dry cleaning provides a surface clean only, it cleans the surface fibers so it is a good option if you want to spruce up your carpets if you have a big event coming up but dry cleaning should not replace your regular 6-12 monthly deep steam clean.
Dry cleaning involves a chemical pre-spray to tackle stains and then the carpeted areas are "buffed" with a buffing machine. Stains will be removed at this stage but will reappear in time as they have only been buffed lower into the carpet pile, rather than removed from the carpet altogether.
One key disadvantage to steam cleaning is it can take a little longer for carpets to full dry when compared to dry cleaning. Over-wetting carpets are a sign of an inexperienced or poorly trained technician. Over-wetting the carpet can cause damage to your carpet or upholstery as it encourages mould and mildew to grow. So it's important to chose your carpet cleaner carefully.
