Carpet Case Moth and Carpet Beetle

Have you moved some furniture to find a large bald patch in your wool carpet? Sounds like you may have a carpet case moth or carpet beetle problem.
Carpet case moth and carpet beetles are very common pests across Australia and Brisbane and are capable of causing thousands of dollars worth of damage if left unchecked.
Case moth and carpet beetles have the same four stages to their life cycle; egg, larva, pupa and adult (in moth or beetle form). They are considered pests and you should take action when you notice their presence in your home.
Case moth and carpet beetles generally prefer natural textiles such as wool carpets and will generally avoid synthetic fabrics like polyester, acrylic or rayon.
What are the signs of a carpet beetle/moth infestation?
There are some key signs you should be on the look out for when you're

doing your weekly housework, things like bare spots in the carpets, webbing in textiles, sand like particles around the home, the actual larvae (creamy white caterpillars with dark heads) and of course the moth or beetle. If you find any of these signs, contact a professional pest controller (preferably one with carpet cleaning experience) to come and take care of your infestation.
How can carpet beetle/moth be avoided?
The best way to avoid or stay on top of a carpet moth/beetle infestation (once its been treated) is to maintain a regular and vigorous vacuuming routine, being sure to reach under heavy or rarely moved furniture, vacuum carpet under curtains or drapes. Case moth/beetle larvae will linger in areas where they will remain undisturbed, so they are usually found in rooms that don't get used, under furniture or curtains.
If you've had a treatment for carpet moth/beetle you should vacuum daily for at least a week to collect any left over eggs in your carpet. Also, take care to vacuum your upholstery as well as there may be eggs in these areas as well.
