Pet Stains on Carpet

It all happens in slow motion, your beloved pet gets "that look" that you know all too well and before you can dive over to them and take them outside to do their "business", up goes the leg and now you're faced with the dilemma of what to do next.

Whether you’re faced with a puddle of urine or pile of faeces, we can help so your carpet doesn't hold visible evidence of that fateful day your best friend decided to take a dump on your pristine carpet.

Urine can be a particular challenge as it is acidic in nature and can affect the carpet fibre in a negative way. Regardless of what your pet has left behind, whether it’s vomit, pee or poo, we have a couple of tips from our stain removal experts.

Our senior carpet cleaning and stain removal technician suggests you remove as much of the solid waste as you can so there is only liquid remaining, and then take a clean towel and blot the stain and use a spray bottle to lightly mist water over the stain to moisten, but do not over- wet it. Some websites tell you to soak the stain in water but this will only spread the stain underneath the carpet causing the stain to enlarge and leach back to the surface once the carpet has dried, appearing bigger than ever.

You should repeat the misting and blotting until it no longer has any effect on the stain (i.e. colour no longer transfers from the stain to your towel). Once most of the mess has been blotted up, place a clean towel on the stain and place a book or something large and heavy on top of the towel so weight is evenly distributed. The towel can be left to soak any residue out of the carpet. Then call a carpet cleaner to come and deal with the urine, poo or vomit stain.

We appreciate that this may not be what you want to hear with all those interesting DIY options freely available on the internet but after a while, that urine or vomit will start to smell even though most of the visible stain has disappeared. The only way to neutralise the pee or vomit smell is for the stain to be cleaned with an antibacterial treatment and extracted from the carpet fibres using the hot water extraction method.

Calling a professional carpet cleaner will mean a trained and experienced person will be able to assess the damage and apply a solution to get the best possible results. We have the equipment and cleaning solutions necessary to remove the stain and the smell causing bacteria.
